Our Green Gunpowder Organic is from the Anhui province in China. It is named after its appearance, as the tiny, tightly rolled balls resemble gunpowder pellets! As the tiny pellets unfurl in water, they create a bright, smooth, slightly smoky green tea.

The Chinese name for these neat little pellets of green tea is ‘zu cha’ meaning ‘pearl tea’. To create its distinctive shape, one leaf at a time is skilfully rolled between the palms of the hand to develop the tea’s flavour. The smaller each tiny pellet the better, as it indicates that fresh baby leaves were picked in the early spring when the quality of the tea is always superior.
